Susanna Self, flute

Flutist Susanna Self has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist, orchestral flutist, educator, and chamber musician. She has soloed with orchestras such as the New England Conservatory Orchestra, the Greece (NY) Symphony Orchestra, the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, the Charlotte Symphony, the Lubbock Symphony, and the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra.

Dr. Self has had an extensive career as an orchestral musician, holding full time positions as Principal Flute with the Charlotte Symphony, Acting Assistant Principal Flute and Second Flute with the Baltimore Symphony, and Acting Principal Flute with the Saint Louis Symphony.

As a chamber musician, she has performed with players from Peninsula Music Festival, on the Pulitzer Contemporary Music Series in Saint Louis, with the Glyndon Chamber Players in Baltimore, on the St. Peter's Series in Charlotte, and currently plays with Chamber Music Amarillo and was featured on TTU's New Music Festival.

Dr. Self has taught at Maryville University, as a sabbatical replacement at Texas Tech University, and currently is Lecturer in Flute at Eastern New Mexico University. She is also a music therapist, working with young adults with autism and older adults in memory care in Lubbock, Texas.

She is married to cellist Jeffrey Noel Lastrapes, with whom she co-founded the chamber group Caerus Ensemble.
