Merille Elliott, flute

Merrilee Elliott, a native Kentuckian, enjoys a varied career as a flutist.  In addition to being the Second Flutist and Associate Principle Flutist in the Lexington Philharmonic, she performs regularly throughout Kentucky and the South with The Ashland Trio (Flute, Viola, Cello), The Jefferson Duo (Flute, Harp), The Elliott/Fogler Duo (Flute, Guitar with whom she is releasing a new CD this summer) and The Lexington Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet.  Merrilee is in demand as a soloist and chamber musician and has played concerts in Greece, Italy, Austria and Germany.

Teaching is an important aspect of Merrilee’s life.  She taught her first student at age 17 and never stopped.  Since 1985, she has been the Professor of Flute at Transylvania  University in Lexington, teaches flute and coaches chamber music for the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts and maintains an active private studio.

The highlight of Ms. Elliott’s year is spending three weeks in Door County playing Second Flute in the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra.  She has also performed in the Winter Concert Series with The Chinook Winds, in solo recital, and with Stephen Alltop.

Merrilee has many interests, including hiking, swimming, photography, history, reading, cooking and sports.  She is married to David Elliott, also a PMF member, and has a daughter and two grandchildren.
