Christopher Norton, percussion

Christopher Norton is Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.  Prior to joining the Belmont faculty in 2001, he taught at Western Kentucky University for fourteen years.  His bachelor's and master's degrees are from the Eastman School of Music, and his doctorate is from Louisiana State University

As an orchestral percussionist, Norton performs regularly with the Nashville Symphony and the Peninsula Music Festival Orchestra.  Former credits include Orchestra Nashville, Alabama Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, New Orleans Symphony, Baton Rouge Symphony, and Eastern Music Festival.

In the realm of chamber music, he is a founding member of ALIAS chamber ensemble and Sympatico percussion group.  He was a guest artist with Nexus percussion quintet, and he has performed and recorded with the Bob Becker Ensemble and The Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band.  He and his wife Leslie, principal horn of the Nashville Symphony, have commissioned, premiered and recorded numerous works for their horn/percussion duo.

As a solo performer and clinician, he has appeared at several Percussive Arts Society events including at their international conventions and state chapter Days of Percussion.  He has given clinics at universities and summer festivals such as Dresden Hochschule, Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, Ohio State University, University of Kentucky, Brevard Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, Leigh Howard Stevens Summer Marimba Seminar, and Eastern Music Festival.
