Internships At PMFPeninsula Music Festival Internships

The Peninsula Music Festival utilizes interns each year during the summer season. The goal of the internship program is to give students an idea of some of the jobs available in the music/arts administration industry as well as aide in the development of job search skills through resume preparation and interviews.

The internships are described below:

  1. Ticket Sales/Office Assistant - Mid-June through the last concert in August. In June the hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. three days a week - usually Monday, Wednesday and Friday; In July the hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. two days a week and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; August the hours increase to Monday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. & 4:15 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. You must have your own transporation. Patience and strong interpersonal skills are necessary for this position. Must be comfortable handling money and making decisions. Attention to detail is necessary. You must be able to work ALL hours listed - no exceptions.
  2. Technical Assistant - FILLED FOR AUGUST 2008 - The month of August. Approximately 120 hours (9 concerts plus rehearsals including stage prep for first rehearsal and strike at close of Festival season). Will work in the lights/sound booth at the Auditorium under the direction of the Operations Coordinator for the Festival. Ability to drive/have transportation. This internship will include stage set-up, moving of instruments, distribution of music, photocopying, collecting and distributing musician mail and messages, working with the stage manager, personnel manager, operations coordinator, and music director to make sure that all aspects of backstage work smoothly for rehearsals and performances. You must be able to work ALL hours listed - no exceptions.
  3. Stage Manager - The month of August. Approximately 100 hours (9 concerts plus rehearsals including stage prep for first rehearsal and strike at close of Festival season). A successful candidate will be professional in appearance and behavior in command of excellent communication skills; able to interact with a variety of personalities (i.e. assist musicians backstage) detail oriented, able to follow through on assigned tasks conscientious, able to show up on time, stay until the job is done able to lift up to 50 pounds (program boxes, etc.) comfortable on a ladder or catwalk above the stage on your feet for much of the scheduled shift, walking or standing

Stage manager will report directly to the Executive Director, and may get additional direction from the Operations Coordinator or Personnel Manager. The essential function of this position is to make sure that the Peninsula Music Festival runs in an efficient manner so that the musicians can concentrate on performing at a very high level.

Stage Manager Job Duties will include:

  • Managing the flow of events on stage and backstage at all rehearsals and performances: interact with orchestra musicians, guest artists, conductors, PMF staff members and other visitors.
  • Assurance of proper stage set up for all rehearsals and performances: may include, but not limited to moving pianos, percussion equipment, chairs, music stands, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Working with Personnel Manager to collect musician information sheets: update database, assist with comp. ticket requests.
  • Assisting with building security, lock and unlock designated doors, check building access, be aware of daily security and emergency procedures.
  • Other duties as needed: assist with orchestra mail and messages, haul program book boxes, set up tables and displays in lobby, stuff program inserts, request guest artists to sign souvenir table cloth, wash press pots after concert, light cleaning in the auditorium, set up tables for food break on concert days, take conductors scores to podium, assist music librarian, track timings of all pieces to communicate latecomer pause in program, assist technical intern with light board and sound board operation during rehearsals, assist with load in and load out.performances.
