The program opens with Dvorak's Legend #5 in its second Festival performance having first been heard in 1988. Legend #6 was also heard in 1988. Legend #6 was also performed in 1998. All were conducted by Victor Yampolsky. Tonight's performance of the much beloved Schumann Piano Concerto marks the 12th at the Festival. It was first performed in 1956 with Frank Glazer, piano, and Thor Johnson conducting and most recently in 2001 with Claude Frank and Stephen Alltop conducting. Anton Nel has previously performed at PMF in 1988, 1991, 1993, 1997, and 2003. He was most recently heard in 2003 in the Mozart Piano Concerto #22. The program concludes with the Festival premiere of the orchestral version of Brahms' Piano Quartet.
